Trees to be given out across Maui
A tree gifting initiative that kicked off Nov. 28 will continue with tree giveaways in West Maui, Upcountry and South Maui on Saturday.
At the Napili Farmers Market, the tree giveaway will start at 8 a.m., with 100 fruit-bearing tree saplings available at a booth run by the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset. The market is located at 4900 Honoapiilani Highway in Lahaina.
At Waipuna Chapel, the giveaway will take place from 9 a.m. to noon or until all 100 trees run out. Recipients will also receive a simple planting and “caring for your tree” manual. Donations are welcome but not required to receive a tree. The church is located at 17 Omaopio Road in Kula.
At St. Theresa Church, the giveaway will run from 10 a.m. until all 100 tree saplings are gone. Each person will be limited to two trees. The Rotary Club of Kihei Wailea will operate the booth at the church parking lot at 25 W. Lipoa Street in Kihei.
The “La’au Ha’awi Maui” project — “Gifting Trees for Maui” initiative is a joint effort by the nine Rotary Clubs of Maui, Ohana Gardens and Uncle George Kahumoku Jr.
