Maui Mompreneur event set for new location this weekend | News, Sports, Jobs

The Maui News

For the first time in eight years, Maui Mompreneur is moving from its previous location at Maui Beach Hotel to the Pa’ina building at the University of Hawaii Maui College.

The Maui Mompreneur “shopping extravaganza,” which supports nearly 60 vendors over two days, is set for 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. There will be handmade crafts, jewelry, art, baked goods and gift ideas.

“Many folks come to get all their Christmas shopping done in one spot! At UHMC, we can still be indoors, so the vendors will have A/C and still have tables set up for them,” said event co-founder Luana HueSing-Ammasi in a news release. “But this year we’re able to bring in three food trucks, and the money that we pay to use the facility goes right back into the culinary program.”

This is “extra special” for HueSing-Ammasi as a former student of the college’s culinary program.

She founded Mompreneur in 2012 with friend and fellow vendor Jovina Ka’eo with the goal to make the vendor experience fun and worthwhile for local brands, while supporting the island’s economy and showcasing quality, local products.

“We know how much ‘ohana matters to us and our vendors. We went with evening hours on Saturday so it doesn’t conflict with sporting and youth events that sometimes occur on Saturday mornings,” said Ka’eo. “We didn’t want vendors to have to choose between missing out on Mompreneur or missing out on their kids’ events, so this way they can do both.”

Admission and parking are free.

There will be a Keiki Zone on Sunday in the student lounge, which includes crafts with Friends & Faire, a photo booth, face painting, a play area by Luxe Play and animatronic dinosaur rides by Kids 4 Science.

“We’re committed to Mompreneur because it’s the handmade crafters, artisans and creators that sometimes get overlooked,” added HueSing-Ammasi. “We want them to know that we see them. We see their side hustles on social media. We see how they work a regular 9 to 5, come home, take care of their family, then work on their business till late in the night. We support them and want to give them a platform to showcase their talents and creations.”
