Aziz Ansari is an American actor, comedian, and writer. He co-created the Netflix comedy-drama series, Master of None (2015-17), and starred as “Tom Haverford” in NBC’s Parks and Recreation (2009-15). His credits include 30 Minutes or Less (2011), Epic (2013), and Human Giant (2007-08). Aziz Ismail Ansari was born on February 23, 1983, in Columbia, South Carolina. His parents Fatima and Shoukath both work in the medical field. He has a brother named Aniz. Ansari attended South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics followed by the New York University Stern School of Business. He graduated in 2004 with a BA degree in marketing.
CAREER
Ansari began his stand-up comedy career at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. He worked with Paul Scheer, Jason Woliner, and Rob Huebel. Together they created the MTV sketch comedy ‘Human Giant’. The show ran for two seasons from April 2007 to April 2008. Ansari appeared in the comedy film, The Rocker (2008), starring Rainn Wilson. He had a memorable role as “Randy Springs” in Judd Apatow’s Funny People (2009). He had small roles in Observe and Report (2009) with Seth Rogen, and I Love You, Man (2009) with Paul Rudd. Ansari was cast as “Tom Haverford” in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation (2009-15). His performance earned him an NAACP Image Award nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series. The series featured actresses Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones.
Ansari co-starred with Jesse Eisenberg and Danny McBride in 30 Minutes or Less (2011). He played an exaggerated version of himself in This Is the End (2013). He lent his voice to the animated films Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012) and Epic (2013). Ansari co-created and starred as “Dev Shah” in the Netflix series Master of None (2015-17).
